Meet The Team
CHAIRMAN
Chris Blake:
Chris was elected as Chairman at the 2022 AGM. Chris brings a wealth of experience as a sports club chairman. Since 2015 he has held the position of Chairman of the Sunderland Table Tennis League . He has also held the role of Chairman of Imagine TT Club since 2015 which is the development arm of the league.
Chris said "I hope that my sporting interests, experience from my professional career and various Chairman roles can help compliment my new role of Chairman of NHBC. I am immensely proud of the Club and the amazing progress it has achieved in recent years and I hope I can play a supporting role in the exciting journey moving forward."
SECRETARY
Barry Thomas:
Barry took over as Secretary in 2020 when the previous holder stepped down, he was formally elected in to the position at the 2021 AGM. He has been responsible for building the NHBC Facebook profile and the website. He produces regular newsletters and will tell anyone who is willing to listen all about the club.
Barry's ambition is to get his name on to the honours board, by fair means or foul.
TREASURER
Lorraine Galley
Lorraine was elected on to the committee at the 2023 AGM. Lorraine retired from DWP Digital in 2022 after working there for 43 years, the last 23 managing finance and project delivery. Then she was looking for a new hobby and as her husband played bowls she thought if you can’t beat them join them. She joined the club and has never looked back. In addition to bowling she and her husband also spend time travelling abroad in their new camper van, and socialising with family and friends. She said “Who said retirement would be relaxing!” She went on to say “I’m really looking forward to starting as NHBC treasurer and taking a more active role in such an amazing club”
CAPTAIN
Colin Watson:
Colin took over as Club Captain in 2020 and was instrumental in guiding our teams to success in his first year, and with a young and inexperienced set of players.
In 2022 Colin led the team to success in the Earl Cup and Swan Cup, winning both competitions and gaining promotion to the first division of both leagues.

SAFEGUARDING OFFICER
Les Todd
Les joined the club in 2022 to pursue a hobby with his wife. He was elected to the committee in October 2023 as Safeguarding Officer.
The role involves having procedures in place, so there is a safe and secure environment, for all our members. This is a requirement of Bowls England.
As a retired solicitor , Les has a great deal of experience in these important issues.
MAINTENANCE SECRETARY
Howard Smith
Howard stepped down as treasurer after three years and has taken on the role of Maintenance Secretary, responsible for ensuring that the clubhouse and green boundaries are maintained in good order.
He is also a very keen and competitive golfer and he brings the same enthusiasm and skill to the bowling green.

FACILITIES SECRETARY
Linda Watson:
Linda is a retired registered nurse, most recently in the ICCU Department at Sunderland Royal Hospital for the past 20 years. She is married to the club captain, Colin. She joined NHBC to enjoy a hobby with her husband.
Linda is responsible for the efficient running of the clubhouse. She will also be assisting the other committee members and helping to link their activities.
